Louth Sinn Fein Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Issues addressed at Council meeting by Cllr Ian Dooley

Published: 27 March, 2009

Sinn Féin Councillor Ian Dooley spoke on the following issues at the recent meeting of Dundalk Town Council:

Knocking of wall at Garden House, Mill St.

Along with other Councillors Ian Dooley welcomed the swift action by residents of Mill St. and council officials to deal with the recent knocking of a historical wall in the area. "It is important that the message is sent out from this council that planning laws do not operate on a Monday To Friday basis and cannot and will not be treated with contempt by anyone." He said he hoped that those who knocked the wall were made to rebuild it as it is a significant piece of the historical jigsaw of the area.

Recent closure of Bridge St to northern bound traffic.

Councillor Dooley welcomed the recent re-opening of Bridge St. to traffic which he said has come as a relief to businesses and residents north of the Castletown River. He acknowledged the work of all those involved in re-opening the road and he also proposed a vote of sympathy to the families recently bereaved as a result of the accident which resulted in the road being closed.

Letter from Dept. regarding councillors request to meet with Minister on Regeneration Plans

Councillor Dooley expressed disappointment at the correspondence received from the office of the Minister for Housing, Urban Renewal and Developing Areas stating that as he was in contact with officials from DTC regarding the development of a master plan for Coxes Demesne and Quick wins programmes, he felt it "premature for the Minister to engage in discussions on the Regeneration Programme". Cllr Dooley proposed that the Council do not accept this as an appropriate response and remind the Minister of his department's previous commitment to meet with the elected members. "This response" he said "gives the members the impression that the regeneration schemes are further away than ever and the elected members need the opportunity to address this."
